Where Does Department And Office Information Come From?

Last Updated: Jun 17, 2015 05:02PM PDT
Fastvue Reporter automatically resolves authenticated usernames in Barracuda Web Filter's log data to the user's first name and last name as specified in Active Directory.

Fastvue Reporter also uses the Department and Office attributes in Active Directory to further group these users into Departments and Offices as shown on the Bandwidth Dashboard and Overview Reports.

To edit the Department attribute for your users:
  1. Log into your domain controller and open Active Directory User's and Computers.
  2. Edit an existing user and go to the Organization tab.
  3. The Department attribute is listed here.

To edit the Office attribute for your users:
  1. Log into your domain controller and open Active Directory User's and Computers.
  2. Edit an existing user and go to the General tab.
  3. The Office attribute is listed here.

If the Fastvue Bandwidth Dashboard is only showing 'Unknown' in the Departments section, it is possible that you do not have authentication on your Barracuda Web Filter. In this case, you will only see IP addresses in the 'Users' sections of your reports.

If you do have authenticated usernames shown in the Users section, but Departments and Offices are still blank check the Department and Office fields are populated in Active Directory.

Alternatively, the connection between Fastvue Reporter and Active Directory may not be working. You can configure these settings in Settings | Directory / LDAP.

Fastvue Reporter also imports the Company attribute, along with Security Group memberships from Active Directory. Although these are not shown in the Dashboards or Reports, you can use these objects for filtering reports, enabling you to run and schedule reports for specific Security Groups or Companies.
